Hi! I’m Kyla,

i am a multidisciplinary artist and teaching artist currently living and making in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. i studied Drama and American Studies in college; and, i work with a variety of techniques and materials, but most frequently with textiles, words, and the body.

i am endlessly intrigued by the body as an object in space, and the relationship between sensation, memory, and impermanence. i am particularly interested in investigating how Black people and Black bodies are put on display, and how they are memorialized. i love to celebrate the messy, the absurd, and the complexity of the human brain and body and how they interact with the world and with technology; and, through movement, writings, photography, print/book makings, textiles and collage, i aim to tap into the power of the seemingly insignificant moments and objects in life.

i have worked with many organizations within the arts and culture sector, including Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Philly Children's Theatre, Playdate Theatre, Nightdrive, ArtistYear, The Free Library of Philadelphia and The Philadelphia Center for the Book.

i publish zines, art books, and other ephemeral publications under the imprint HYPERKINETIC PRESS.
